As a consulting and design firm, we approach the design of public spaces strategically. Whether working at the city, neighborhood or project level, we offer three interlocking services: brand development, strategic planning, and implementation of urban art/design projects. While we can focus on any one of these stages, the most successful projects involve all three. Even when a client wants a single art work, we always seek to understand the identity of the client and the space before drawing a line.

Identity Mapping involves extensive stakeholder engagement and study of the community to produce the community’s Aspirational Identity. This identity is valuable not just for the specific project at hand, but also for those involved with economic development, community development, planning, and marketing/communications.

Identity Strategy matches the Aspirational Identity to a physical area. The result is a strategic plan outlining how art and design projects can engage people in the identity and, where appropriate, how the space can achieve other strategic goals of the client. As needed, experts from landscape architects to lighting designers to public artists may be included. The final document can provide guidance for budgeting, development of RFPs and broader master planning.

Identity Implementation is when we collaborate with leading artists and designers to execute creative projects for public spaces. Our focus is actively engaging users in exciting ways. Our role can range from producing a single interactive sculpture to commissioning a year-long schedule of changing art installations to creating a series of living walls with cell phone audio tour.
